A few weeks ago The Makers Group had the pleasure of working with local sound artist Emma Welton. Emma has embraced the change the pandemic bought upon her work, switching from composing and performing to running sound walks for the public and making recordings of nature.
Emma and the group explored the farm and worked on a visual sound map. They focused on the walking route through the cutting and over the field. We hope to create a version of this artwork that can be followed as a map by visitors to the farm.

Emma encouraged the group to slow down and really tune into the sounds around them. This walking route is one we have done many times, however focusing on sound enabled us to see it in a new light, from a different perspective.
The group worked together to create three sections of the map that were then joined to make one artwork. Since returning from the national lockdown the group have felt it even more important to work together and collaborate on projects. It’s so satisfying to see finished artworks that everyone has worked together to create.

We really enjoyed having Emma guide our group for two weeks. If you are interested in the work she does, or to hear some locally recorded sounds you can visit her website here.
