Community Garden update

Summer has come and gone, with us all too busy to write a blog. So here we are at the onset of winter.

The community garden has been really productive and during a very cold Spring, the polytunnel came into its own giving us food during the historic hungry gap. Our labours over a warm summer has allowed us all to eat well and will hopefully see us with food throughout the winter months. Rows of brassicas, leeks and roots should complement the squashes and dryable crops we are endeavouring to store to see us through.

We have once again been blessed with bees taking up residence and 2 heavy hives should have enough resources to keep their occupants happy over the cold days to come. With careful management and a bit of luck we should see our hive numbers treble next Spring.

We have been busy building a lovely new shed which will become the centre of our garden world and will allow us to reshape how we utilise the space we have.

We just hope it is all as interesting for our visitors to spend time at as it is for us to work on.

There is much for us to get our heads around for next year and as winter threatens we are looking at what needs tidying and what needs to be made into a bonfire to lift our spirits in the cold short days to come.
