Our Community Garden project has gained national recognition at the Adult Learning Awards.
Beating over 1500 other projects Organic Arts was awarded highly commended in the South West Project Awards category.
BBC Spotlight’s Hamish Marshall presented the award at a gala dinner held at Sandy Park Conference & Banqueting Centre, in Exeter.
Christine Duff, coordinator for Organic Arts: “Even up to the day of the award ceremony I had no idea we had reached such lofty heights. It was such a buzz when I brought home our certificate and presented it to all our volunteers.”
The project supports local people to develop greater confidence, self-esteem, social skills and time-keeping. Learning practical skills two days a week the volunteers help maintain the garden, grow vegetables and soft fruit, which are prepared and cooked for a shared lunch.
If you are interested in volunteering in the community garden it happens every Wednesday and Friday from 10.30am to 4pm with a minibus pickup from Exeter. For more details please contact Christine on 01392 811080.
