Three little snapshots of education at West Town Farm with organicARTS

First with Ladysmith infants looking at how the farm produces materials, the properties of these materials and played with them creatively. bedding the cows and building a big house of straw, gathering stocks and making shelters and exploring across the meadow to find where the clay can be dug from the ground to then model with it and watch it change when placed around the wood fire. All of fundamental primary experiences, great fun and full of learning.

Then we have Wynstream Primary coming out to learn about how we created the community garden to grow vegetables because that is what they are going to be doing back at school. They have also been reading Micheal Morpurgo’s Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips so we are going to create the hot dog feast from the book. After they have visited the pigs of course!

Finally the start of an experiment, Foreign Soil. i-Dat data loggers placed around the farm, feeding back wirelessly information about rainfall, temperature, wind speed so that we can find the best place to grow bananas! Artist Gabby Hoad will be creating digital art from all the numbers, we will be discussing changing climates and growing patterns and schools can work with the data gathered. Will we grow bananas? Well maybe not but we will have learnt a lot along the way.

We engage, explore and challenge in our education work. Interested? Contact us to find out more!
