We had a virtual sit down with one of our trustees Neil to hear how he first came to organicARTS , and his passion for photography.

How did you first become involved with organicARTS?

Neil: I was introduced to organicARTS by a friend and former colleague who thought I might be interested in joining a local “environmental” charity which engaged in a wide range of activities including education, gardening, arts & crafts. During a career spent developing and operating water resources, I had become increasingly involved in environmental impact assessment and found it fascinating and so, following semi-retirement, I accepted an invitation to join organicARTS as a trustee in 2016.

What role do you play within the organicARTS community?

Neil: From the outset, it was very evident that the other trustees and the staff were knowledgeable, committed and fired with enthusiasm, but I wasn’t really sure that I had any skills to offer or what role I could play. So, I volunteered to take the minutes of meetings knowing that would be popular as no one likes doing the minutes! Since then I have enjoyed participating in some of the many other organicARTS activities.

Why do you enjoy being a part of organicARTS?

Neil: The most rewarding thing about being involved with organicARTS is seeing the difference that it makes to people’s lives whether they are school children learning how their food is produced, volunteers in the community garden growing vegetables, or local people learning new skills such as pottery, painting with natural materials, or willow work. But underlying all those activities is an appreciation of our environment and why we must look after it.

Tell us about your photography?

Neil: Over the last few years I’ve been able to spend more time on photography and have come to realise just how lucky I am to live in Devon with its abundant wildlife and stunning scenery. These are a few of my photographs taken in the Duryard Valley near Exeter University.

Neil is such an asset to the organicARTS team. Other than being a super organised and efficient minute taker, he always brings a massive smile, positive attitude, and lends a willing hand in any fundraising or open day event we do. Thank you Neil!

Please enjoy a of few examples of his stunning nature photography below
