SUMMARY:Ceramic Skulls with Peter Jeffs
DESCRIPTION:Delve into the earthy world of clay – create decorative skulls for your own Day of the Dead celebrations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe term CALAVERA is often used for decorative skulls made from either sugar or clay\, used in the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead. \n\n\n\nDay of the Dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2\, exchanging a mournful for a celebratory occasion of those who have died and often taking a humorous tone. Celebrants may meet in the cemetery to remember amusing events and anecdotes about the departed\, or have little shrines at home decorated with marigolds. \n\n\n\nIn this 3.5 hour workshop you will make two small clay skull tokens\, as well as a larger decorated calavera face\, with full\, step by step teaching based on the real shapes of the human skull – learning the basics of claywork. \n\n\n\nPeter Jeffs is a potter renowned for his mystical\, earthy figures and faces. Using the anatomy of the face and body as a starting point\, he evolves life-like forms into ethereal beings who might live at the bottom of your garden – or indeed the depths of the ocean. \n\n\n\nThe skulls will be dried and fired in the kiln at organicARTS\, in time for your own ‘dia de los muertos’ celebration.  We will contact you when it is ready to be collected. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 14+. The morning will include a pause for a short walk in the beautiful surroundings of organicARTS (fingers crossed for the weather!) – please wear suitable footwear and bring a packed lunch. \n\n\n\nPlease let us know your access requirements when you book your ticket. Workshop cost includes all materials and firing. \n\n\n\n\nBook your ticket

SUMMARY:Wet Felting at the Quayside
DESCRIPTION:Design and make a small piece of wet felt that reflects the things you notice in the landscape around the Quay. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\norganicARTS is heading to Exeter Quayside! Take inspiration from the landscape\, buildings\, flora and fauna of the Quay to design and make a small wet-felted taster artwork to take home. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to a larger\, communal wet-felted wall hanging based on the motifs and patterns of the Custom House and Quay. Finally you’ll have the chance to see different stages of wool and yarn production\, such as carding raw fleece and using a spinning wheel to make yarn. \n\n\n\nThis day of creativity forms part of Exeter Canal and Quay Trust’s Summer at the Quayside and focuses on Exeter’s vibrant wool trade history. Why not follow up your creative activities by walking to city’s Woolen Trail to discover more about the wool trade in Exeter? \n\n\n\nFREE – no booking necessary

SUMMARY:Upcycled Art Journals with Megan Dowsett
DESCRIPTION:Transform your (or your children’s) unwanted artwork into highly personal notebooks that both celebrate and re-use your creative output. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBring a whole bunch (as much as you can carry!) of abandoned drawing\, writing and scribbling – the good\, the bad\, the ugly – all of it! Using a decorative and unusual technique to cover and bind\, we’ll re-shape\, re-purpose and re-imagine it into a lovely notebook that serves as a memoir and a celebration of our most creative moments. \n\n\n\nA visual artist based in Exeter\, Megan works with a variety of media\, exploring connection with people\, place and nature. Her work often takes the form of a book – sometimes in quite a traditional format and at other times\, something more experimental and ephemeral – and she re-uses all her own and her children’s old art to make unique notebooks for every purpose. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 14+. The morning will include a pause for a short walk in the beautiful surroundings of organicARTS (fingers crossed for the weather!) – please wear suitable footwear and feel free to bring a snack. \n\n\n\nPlease let us know your access requirements when you book your ticket. Workshop cost includes all materials. \n\n\n\n\nBook tickets here

SUMMARY:Ceramic Tree Spirits with Peter Jeffs
DESCRIPTION:Delve into the earthy world of clay – use the textures of trees and plants to develop a unique Tree Spirit for your favourite outside space. In this workshop\, you’ll look at the anatomy of the skull to start you off\, before using the textures of trees and plants and the proportions of the face to develop your piece into a unique Tree Spirit for your own favourite outside space. You’ll use tools that you might find at home and develop skills that you can use in continuing clay creations long after this session. \n\n\n\nYour project will be dried and fired in the kiln at organicARTS. This can take up to two months\, as it needs to dry slowly. We will contact you when it is ready to be collected. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will include a pause for a short walk in the beautiful surroundings of organicARTS (fingers crossed for the weather!) – please wear suitable footwear and bring a packed lunch. \n\n\n\nWorkshop cost includes all materials and firing. \n\n\n\n£42-£52 \n\n\n\n\nBook tickets here ..

SUMMARY:Colours of Place and Memory with Kate Shear
DESCRIPTION:Use the vibrant\, versatile medium of watercolour to represent a place or memory in a series of playful\, circular colour samples.  \n\n\n\nArtist Kate Shear creates highly personal\, ephemeral watercolour commissions that highlight the colours of a moment or event – from Canadian landscapes to weddings and life ceremonies\, she condenses the magic of the occasion in a way that allows the pigment to tell a thousand stories in one simple dot. In this workshop\, Kate will explore the technicalities of working with watercolour\, including wet on wet\, wet on dry and how to ‘hold’ your artwork before it becomes a blurry mess. You’ll think through the colours of the landscape around organicARTS\, or of a place or memory that is meaningful to you (you choose – bring some reference photos and materials if you’d like to do this) and transform them into your own memento of place and time. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will include a pause for a short walk in the beautiful surroundings of organicARTS (fingers crossed for the weather!) – please wear suitable footwear and feel free to bring a snack. \n\n\n\nWorkshop cost includes all materials. \n\n\n\n£28-£38 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook tickets here ..

SUMMARY:Yule Fireside Sharing Circle
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a chance to connect with nature\, community and yourself during a calm and restorative evening round the fire in our beautiful community garden. Yule is a winter festival that celebrates the return of light and warmth after the winter solstice. \n\n\n\nCircle practice is a method of authentic\, compassionate communication that has been practised throughout history. \n\n\n\nIt involves sitting in a circle and sharing our personal stories in a non judgemental way\, building understanding and empathy. \n\n\n\nWhen we sit in a circle\, we’re implicitly suggesting that we are all equal and that we are connected. A talking stick is held by the person who speaks and moves around the circle until everyone has been heard. The invitation is to speak and listen from the heart. As a technology\, a circle is deceptively simple. There are some basic ground rules: don’t interrupt\, don’t analyse or judge anyone else’s contribution\, keep it confidential\, speak from the heart\, set a time limit. Within that container\, the way it works is simply to go around the circle and hear from everyone. One person speaking at a time. Everyone listening. \n\n\n\nIt will be run by Jo Cotter\, one of the founder members of organicARTS\, and trained in the Way of the Circle\, and Bekah Phillips a keen practitioner. The practice is guided by The Ways of the Council: https://waysofcouncil.net/ you can read more about Council practise here: https://waysofcouncil.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Introduction-to-Council.pdf \n\n\n\nThis is the sixth in a series of circles on Tuesday evenings to celebrate the wheel of the year and the cycle of the seasons. They have all been beautifully gentle and restorative. \n\n\n\nThis is an adult only event\, it will based around the fire outside so come dressed warmly. \n\n\n\nHot drinks and Seasonal Soup will be provided! \n\n\n\n\nTickets here …
