Working with vulnerable adults

The Community Garden Project

Community Garden

We offer twice weekly sessions where people can volunteer to help maintain and develop the community garden. Volunteers grow vegetables and fruit which they use to make a lunch shared with the staff and visitors to organicARTS and West Town Farm. The Community Garden is an resource used for educational visits; open days and workshops. Features in the garden include a pond and reed bed system; a fire pit; bees; a tree house and rope walkway plus trees, shrubs and flowers.

It helped me learn about horticulture, to communicate with other persons. It has helped with my personal
development if you like. – a volunteer

Vulnerable Adults

organicARTs’ staff are experienced with working with vulnerable adults.

It’s given me self-confidence, it’s built my fitness up, [I’m] communicating with people outside my comfort zone. – a volunteer

Creative Activity

We also run creative activity sessions for groups from organisations such as Magic Carpet. These sessions include working with the farm clay to make a variety of objects which can be decorated and fired in different ways. We  hold sessions in our woodland quarry area with firelighting; cooking; coppicing and learning how to use tools for green woodwork.

If you or someone you know would like to get involved or bring a group to the farm or would like more information contact Christine on 01392 811080 or e-mail
