My Story: Zoe, Trustee

This summer, I was honoured to be accepted as a trustee for organicARTS. I was a new (ish) mum with a little more spare time, a desire to keep my brain in gear and a wish to become more involved in my community, so when I heard that the wonderful organisation that I’d done a Christmas wreath making course with the year before needed help, I jumped at the chance. In my pre-baby life I had run courses and events on an organic farm, so felt I had some experience and skills I could bring to my role. Being a trustee has proved extremely rewarding. As well as meeting an incredibly talented and dedicated team of people, I’ve learnt about the amazing work that happens right on the edge of Exeter for all sorts of disadvantaged and marginalised people, and been lucky enough to spend time on this beautiful organic farm. I’ve been practically useful too, helping to run the cafe at events, getting stuck into fundraising and even nominating organicARTS for an Exeter Living Award – keep your fingers crossed! I look forward to working with the charity and seeing the farm as it changes through the seasons, and I’d encourage anyone else who may be thinking of becoming a trustee to give it a go – it’s such a life enhancing experience!
