Our Aims and Beliefs

We believe

  • that the arts should be accessible to all, irrespective of age, ethnicity, ability, gender, social class or wealth;

  • that provision should be made for education in the arts and rural issues through distinct workshops and projects;

  • in the potentially transformative benefits that arise from participation in the arts;

  • in providing a springboard in order to explore rural issues in creative and innovative ways;

  • in the acquisition of skills through professionally led projects;

  • that process and participation is as important as a finished project.

We aim to

  • create an environment for the exploration of arts and rural issues

  • work with local farming communities

  • create links between urban and rural, to promote understanding

  • blend traditional crafts and skills alongside contemporary art forms

  • provide space to exhibit work in the context in which it was made and to participate in local arts initiatives

  • develop established and sustainable links with educational institutions at all levels

  • to help aid understanding of rural issues and to provide access to the farm;

  • develop, extend and improve the buildings at West Town to create a centre for excellence for art, education and rural issues;

  • engage with the local community in tackling social exclusion

  • develop the diversification and regeneration or West Town Farm creating jobs for arts practitioners and local people;

  • develop the idea of art as a social tool through exploration and research;

  • promote emerging artists and new art forms;

  • respond to needs from different sections within the local area
