Events: Wassail

The Wassail

Wren Trust and Voices in Common wassailed around the orchard on Twelth Night. They sang songs to the trees to bring them good health and made lots of noise to frighten away any evil spirits. Traditionally shotguns would have been fired into the branches. As well as getting rid of spirits the pellets would graze the bark and encourage new growth.
