Saturday 9th February
Wood Cutting Day

10am-4pm. Learn how to choose and cut hazel from the woodland that is suitable to use for the chair making workshop in March. Please bring lunch and outdoor gear and if possible suitable tools e.g. pruning saws and bowsaws. FREE and reduction of £5 from the cost of the chair making day (over 15s only)

FRIENDS and VOLUNTEERS DAY

Noon-4pm A chance to experience & contribute to progress in the garden including compost making. REFRESHMENTS available. FREE

Sunday 9th MARCH
HEDGEROW CHAIR MAKING DAY

10am-4pm Learn how to create a useful and beautiful piece of furniture from the hedgerows. We’ll show you how to select suitable materials and construct a chair from hazel, to take home as a finished article at the end of the day. If possible please bring a cordless drill, pruning saw, loppers, secateurs, tape measure and a hammer. We will have some tools if you do not have any. Bring lunch and suitable outdoor gear. COST: £30 (£5 reduction for those helping at the wood cutting day on 9th Feb); (over 15s only) BOOKING ESSENTIAL

SPRING OPENING

11am-4pm The First Open Day of the year at West Town and the official opening of our new community garden. Activities including seasonal creative workshops, trails, tractor & trailer rides, meet ‘Hay Man’ the new bull and of course our usual selection of delicious refreshments. COST £3 / £2

Rural Futures: Dreams, Dilemmas and Dangers.

organicARTS have been asked to contribute to this conference at the University of Plymouth. If the last conference is anything to go by it will be stimulating, useful and fun with a mix of academics, policy makers and practitioners. OPEN FARM SUNDAY

11am-4pm Explore the farm and take part in a whole range of activities. IF YOU’VE EATEN TODAY THANK A FARMER is one of the themes of this year’s national event. Come along and hear a panel discuss the future of food production. Whilst you’re here enjoy – Tractor & Trailer rides; guided walks; food activities; help the farmer; children’s activities, and of course our usual selection of home made refreshments, including West Towns own beef barbeque.
FREE entrance but a small charge for some activities.

Help build our pottery (see below); work in the garden; record the farm in summer for our web site or just enjoy the farm. REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED (free for volunteers)

CLAY WINNING

11am-4pm Learn about various clays and their uses, the history of clay making in the area and on the farm how to find, reclaim and use the materials found, for sculpting, cob building, painting and pottery with Richenda Macgregor from Totnes (further details on application) Cost £20 The day will consist of digging some of your own clay so please do come prepared with wellies and old clothes! Bring your own lunch or we can provide soup, bread & cake for £3 BOOKING ESSENTIAL

HOLIDAY CLUB for CHILDREN

This year we’re going to be running a children’s play scheme for a week in August. This is for over 8 year olds (younger children must be accompanied by an adult). Costs £20 per child for 10am-4pm (should there be a need we can extend the times to fit with work hours). The day will include working with an artist; an exploratory walk; games; making and eating lunch; playing and some farm activities.

11 am - 5 pm Pumpkin carving, longest peel competition, tractor and trailer rides, storytelling, creative workshops, pumpkin and apple games, straw bale assault course, picking windfalls, apple pressings and more ....

When anyone can drop in to work on our community permaculture garden (see elsewhere for news of the garden) and selected other activities around the farm. LUNCH PROVIDED

FRIENDS & VOLUNTEERS DAYS

First Sunday of Every Month Noon – 4pm
When ‘Friends of organicARTS can come to the farm for whatever activity they wish - go for a walk, do some artwork, spot wild flowers etc or join volunteers in the activities available to help organicARTS and/or the farm.


Also planned ..... hurdle making, willow weaving, clay/pottery, an archaeological dig and more! Let us know if you’re interested or check the website from time to time
