I
came to Fine Art practice 4 years ago having
spent over 20 years working with marginalized people in community and
social work.
Much
of my artwork to date has engaged with social
and political issues of Exclusion and Disability, using the media of
photography and installation. In coming to West Town Farm I wanted to
explore new territory artistically…………

I
have always been interested in the qualities
of
light and illumination- as material, creative and energetic force,
but
also the psychological
and metaphorical allusions.
The play of
light and shadow mediates our
perception and emotional experience of place and the everyday.
The
natural environment itself is perhaps a constantly shifting wonder
of light, shade, colour and pattern.

During the months of Winter and Spring I started
to record sequences of
light and reflections at the farm: shafts of
light through windows; light dancing across earth, walls and
surfaces-revealing, shifting, fluid, concealing, I chose
to use the
medium of photography –painting with light , trying to capture the
interaction of the human and the natural with place.
This initial series of photographs is captured
around the ‘hub’ of the farm in the barns, outhouses, and garden and
through the ‘Cutting’.

There are pure
suggestive abstracts of form,
colour, pattern and movement.. Others try to capture
momentary
reflections that we often pass by and can overlook. Some have a dream
like quality that may prompt personal narratives and
memories.
I find West Town Farm a magical place with a
wonderfully generous community. I’d like to continue my work moving
towards the fields and Copse.
